Calamophyton Explained / #1

Calamophyton is not a weapons company

The problems Calamophyton addresses intersect with defense and operations. That may lead people to think of us as a weapons company.

The defense industry is not only about building and delivering complete weapons systems. Understanding a situation before an operation begins, preparing people and equipment, and changing plans as conditions on the ground change are also part of defense.

Calamophyton builds software for environments where people and assets actually move. The battlefield is one of those environments.

Where people move and assets are deployed, new information continually changes existing plans. New reconnaissance reports arrive, equipment conditions change, and supplies are delayed. What matters is not the volume of information. It is knowing how much the new information changes current preparations and plans.

Calamophyton addresses this problem through three software products and the platform beneath them.

HARBINGER finds and verifies the evidence. It checks signals from the field—reconnaissance reports, equipment conditions, supply delays, and newly received documents—against their source and timing, and shows what has changed.

PÓLYA weaves verified evidence into a single picture of the situation. It shows on one screen what corroborates what, what conflicts, and which gaps remain. People interpret. PÓLYA does not.

RAIFFA supports the decision without making it. When multiple components are assembled into a system, it lays the options side by side: which combinations serve the objective, and what must be given up to gain something else. It also shows which options need another look when conditions change.

EOS is the operating and deployment platform beneath them. It deploys and updates the three products across environments and keeps each environment’s security boundary.

HARBINGER verifies evidence, PÓLYA weaves the picture, RAIFFA supports the decision, and EOS is the platform all three run on.

This software can support operational preparation and execution on the battlefield, and the analysis of equipment and supply changes in industry. The settings differ, but they are all places where new information changes existing plans while people and assets are moving.

Calamophyton does not supply weapons themselves. Instead, we build software that helps weapons, people, equipment, and supplies move when they are needed in actual missions. That is why we are not a weapons company, but we are a defense company.

This series is not only about introducing platforms. Here, we will examine the problems that arise when software enters high-consequence environments such as defense and industry. We will explain what needs to be prepared, how software should be designed and deployed, and how to respond to changes and errors in the field.
